Let there be LIGHT!

"Every syllable carefully crafted to match the pulsation of the heart
every letter curled pubic thought
spout new life into existence..."
recited FreeVerse! youth slam team member, Ricky Orng during Friday's S.L.A.M.(Sonnets Lighting A Match) event; An event curated by Lowell's first youth slam team, FreeVerse! and sponsored by The Revolving Museum. Humorous to most...and maybe even crude to some - those words epitomized everything that went on that night: The laughters, the tears, the techniques - and even that subtle glimpse of introspection, readily available to those willing to just - LISTEN.

The purpose of the event was to assemble a group of Lowell's best and brightest young poets to compete at the nationally renown slam festival: Brave New Voices, this summer in Los Angeles, California. Although everyone gave it their best, only five were chosen to represent the beautiful city of Lowell in L.A. Nonethless, everyone gave memorable performances. And why not? With pieces tackling on issues such as love, society, family and even the admiration of a certain body part(belonging to the male species lol), the event was just a glimpse of Lowell young talents and ultimately, it's cultural progress. And with local spoken-word veterans such as Masada Jones, Anthony Febo and Joey Banh at the helm, I think it's safe to say that...it's here to stay!

Congratulation to FreeVerse! and The Revolving Museum on a wonderful event! And an even bigger congratulations to the amazing youth that will be holding it down for the city at BNV, this summer!

congrats:
