Works by Linda Saphan and Jim Higgins
Linda Saphan explores the lives of contemporary women in Cambodia. Saphan’s passion for art and her love of Khmer culture have made her one of the most prominent and encouraging voices in the Cambodian art scene. There’s a sense of anticipation, of women on the verge, communicated through subtle facial expressions throughout her work. You get the feeling that Gotta have it is a possibility, but filled with contradictions.
Jim Higgins‘ work, through his performance art company Flying Orb Productions, is about transformation among Cambodian/American women. For these women, breaking free means taking risks and Gotta have it is here and now! But while they represent the new wave of Khmer artists, they still struggle with the double lives they lead within their traditional culture.
Curated by Setheyny Pen.
